ACTIVITIES AND FUN IN KESWICK THIS SUMMER

Are you already missing the buzz and activities that surrounded the Keswick Mountain Festival?  Or perhaps you didn't get chance to come to this year's May Festival to have a look at what's on offer in Keswick.  Well, don't worry, our activity providers offer an amazing array of things to do in our fabulous lakes and mountains all year round, and summer is the best time of year to sample them. 

Here's a selection of outdoor activities that could whet your appetite for a great day in the outdoors:  Go Ape on the High Wire Forest Adventure at Whinlatter Forest Park if you think you can handle three hours of tree top adventure.Try the Via Ferrata Classic and ZIP if you dare, for the highest, coolest experience at Honister.com .  Sailing, windsurfing, canoeng, kayaking, dragon boating and Viking longships are available on the lake - contact  Derwent Water Marina and Platty+ for a splashing day on the beautiful Derwentwater. 

Walk in the company of local guides - you can't beat local knowledge for an interesting day out in the fells - Keswick Rambles,  Touchstone Guiding and Cathy Colam are the key to wonderful walking.  Have you ever thought of improving your GPS and navigation skills?  Learn from the experts at GPS Training.

Raise the tempo and take in some exhilarating ghyll and gorge scrambling or rock climbing in safe hands - Tim Mosedale, Mountain Sense, Newlands Adventure Centre, Glaramara Outdoor Adventure,  or The Activity Agency all offer tuition in something a little bit different that you may have not tried before.

Keswick is a also a great centre for mountain biking - Keswick Bikes are here for all your cycling needs.

Summer Season 2009 at Theatre by the Lake comprises six adventurous plays.
Highlights include William Shakespeare’s best-loved classic A Midsummer Night’s Dream. Over in the Studio, a world première, For All Time by Cumbrian writer Rick Thomas.

Felting Summer School (including sale days): 17th to 21st August, 2009

Course Fee for each is £435 to include all materials, equipment, accommodation and meals. There are no additional hidden charges.
Both courses are suitable for beginners who have a little knowledge of feltmaking. Do not be put off by the Masterclass title which refers to the skills of the tutors not the expected level of the students.

On these two days we will be opening a sales marquee, alongside the Master Class course. A large selection of stock will be available to buy and for just £4 you can spin as many samples as you like all day. Ruth and Alan of Wingham Wool will be on-hand to answer queries and offer demonstrations.

Multi-Activity Days at More than Mountains

If you cannot make your mind up and would like to try rock climbing, gorge walking and abseiling all on the same day how about coming along on one of our multi-activity days. The morning will start with an introduction to rock climbing; you will get to try a range of climbs and learn the climbing basics. Then we will finish off the morning with a fantastic 100 foot abseil down the side of an old quarry. After lunch we will go gorge walking in Stoney Croft ghyll ("ghyll" is a Lake District word for mountain stream) with an exciting descent complete with slides, jumps and plenty of getting wet. You don't need any experience and we will provide all of the specialist equipment. You just need to bring a pair of trainers, your lunch and a full change of dry clothes!

Keswick Rambles

Why not choose to join Keswick Rambles when you come to Keswick on holiday?  With a wide selection of Guided Walks available throught the Summer, including old favourites and hidden gems it's a wonderful opportunity to explore the Lake District in the congenial company of a small group with experienced leaders and all their local knowledge.  For a small charge of £10 to £12 per person (plus transport if necessary) you can be assured of an excellent day on the hills.  There is no need to book; just meet outside the Moot Hall (Tourist Information Centre) in Keswick in the morning.  Have a look on www.keswickrambles.org.uk for the programme of walks for this summer.

Settle down for an evening full of delights at a  Lakes Alive world-class event.

Lakes Alive is also looking for people to help create a visual spectacle - 100 giant flags - which will be part of Lakes Alive events and festivals this year. This is your chance to work alongside professional artists to be a part of Cumbria's cultural contribution to the Olympics and its legacy. Come along and work with us - tell us what inspires you about the landscape near you. We want to know your loves, hates, hopes and dreams.
